| Hi all – just wanted to clear up a couple of misconceptions about how we invited people this year. Of course all of last year's participants were awesome, but we couldn't invite everyone because we really wanted to make space for people who hadn't gotten lucky in the lottery last year. So invites went out to last year's pinch hitters (for being awesome and stepping in at the last minute) and then a very small group of others who fit some combination of factors including but not limited to: not needing an extension last year, current fandom participation level and interest, expressing interest to one of the mods before we made the announcement. This was not a scientific process - we had established an overall number of invites and when we reached that number we stopped looking through the list.
So if you were a participant last year and didn't get an invite, this doesn't mean we don't want you! It's honestly not personal. It just means we didn't get to your name or you didn't fit a couple of the criteria above or we couldn't find your email or something like that. Please do come and sign up for the lottery in March, because we'd really love to have you take part.
We're really sorry if anyone's feelings have been hurt over this, and I really hope you'll understand that we were just trying to be fair and create a balance between new and old participants.

| Hi all! *waves* I just wanted to let you know that we are indeed going to have another round of the triatha_ron in 2008! As some of you may know,  mad_maudlin is currently overseas, so tarie and I will be mostly running this round. There are going to be a few changes both for variety and for keeping the comm going under LJ's new rules. I'm not quite ready to roll all that out yet, but I wanted to let you know that something's on the radar so you can get your Ron engines pumping. But I think our basic schedule is going to look something like this (not set in stone!): March 1: sign-ups begin March 8: sign-ups end March 9: teams listed and assignments go out via email April 13: posting begins I think we're going to maintain the Het, Slash, and Gen team structure. More details to follow, honest. :D If you have suggestions for prompts you'd like to see or any changes you'd like made, please comment here. I'm especially interested in incorporating art for this round in addition to fic, so if you are an artist who would consider participating, would you please just drop a comment and say "ooooh, me!" so I can see if we have enough interest? | Ladies and gentlemen, the moment you've all been waiting for. The polls on the last set of fics closed this afternoon, and I must say, this one was down to the wire. But in the end--by a margin of 0.12 points--we had a winner. And that winner is... Author Notes: First off, I'd like to issue an enormous thanks to sister_dear for the beta. You're comments were indeed quite helpful. Any ensuing mistakes are thus my own. Second off, this turned out to be a surprising challenge, indeed. I thought my prompt of "family" would be quite easy to get through, but as it turns out I went through at least eight drafts and ideas before I ended up with this piece. I had to draw a lot from my own experiences as a child, for this one, which was emotionally draining in the extreme. I'm still unsure about my feelings of Ron in this; he's the star, especially for me, but a lot of this fic is about nuance, about being the youngest (or second to youngest, but youngest boy) in a family with large personalities. Sometimes children get a bit lost, I think. I wanted to show Ron in conjunction with his family, through the eyes of his mother, but as a bit of an enigma, still, because he's a boy who's not done growing and who hasn't established or asserted his full individuality yet. | Hey writers! It's almost time for the TriathaRon posting to begin, and I just wanted to give a few pre-emptive kudos. Mad wacky props to co-mod marginaliana for running a wonderful Drabble-a-Thon, and to all our writers whose hard work will shortly be going on display! Before we begin, I want to give everying a crash course in how to vote for stories. Every fic will, at the bottom, include a poll with three questions, each good for 1-10 points: How well was Ron portrayed in this fic? Not necessarily "Is Ron a good guy?" or even "Is Ron shown in a positive light?" but how skillfully the author evoked the character we all know and love (warts, freckles and all). How well did the author use the prompt? The prompts were very general, and authors had free reign to come up with creative interpretations. The fic might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you hear "fire" or "summer" or "loss," but it might just evoke that word in a way you didn't expect. Overall, how much did you like this fic? This one, at least, is obvious. :-) Votes will be collected for four days, give or take a few hours, after a fic is posted. After that, the score will be entered into the Modly Scorebook, and the poll will be deleted. So writers, pimp your teammates' fics! The more votes you get, the merrier! The average score for each of these questions will be summed, so in the end, each fic will have a total score out of thirty. Each team will have a score out of 450 (30 x 15--see, I can do maths!). Prompt #11: Since March 1 is both the start date of our main fest and Ron's birthday, that's our prompt - birthday! It doesn't have to be Ron's that you write about - it could be Ron celebrating someone else's birthday as long as, per usual, Ron is the central character. Writing for this prompt is now closed. | Hello, writers! Tomorrow, February 21, is the official deadline for fic submissions. Unless you've recieved an email from the moderators confirming an extension, your fic is due tomorrow.
A few quick pointers:
Where do you submit your fic? Email it as an attachment to triatharon.mod@gmail.com
What format should you use? We can handle .doc, .txt or HTML files easily.
What kind of formatting should you use? If you have any special formatting in the body of the story--italics, bold, indents, et cetera--please insert the HTML coding yourself--we don't want to accidentally mess anything up!
Do you need a header? Yes. This is the format we would like, which is also in the FAQ:
