I wish I had more time to comment, but I had to say something now, lest I forget.

Absolutely beautiful. Tear jerker, too. Sad and soothing and stunning all at once. Bravo.

Thanks so much for the kind words - I'm very happy you liked the story!

Such a bittersweet story, and so beautifully written. I'm assuming that Kingsley was injured by Draco's ghost, because he was either too close to the pensieve, or it was the only way to get Harry sent there. Good for Draco, doing something honourable at last. Bravo!

Thanks - I'm very glad you liked it! Yes, I assume Draco blasted everybody until Harry came in, and Kingsley was more persistent than most (not to mention probably not among Draco's favourite people...).

What a stunning work this is. There are so many phrases I want to quote back, but I'll try to stick to a few:

Malfoy favours him with a look that makes 'imbecile' sound like the endearment of the day.

Oh, so very Draco.

Ever so often, Remus leans in to whisper advice into Sirius' ear, and you quickly learn to move very carefully every time that happens after the first instance costs you a pawn.

What a marvelous detail to drop into the story; that whole scene is marvelous, and an ingenious way to explore canon!Ron in a way I've not seen before. That Harry then is self-flagellating afterwards bruised my heart for him; it is so very painful to think back and realize how selfish and cruel we are to our friends at times. Having to recognize that after one's closest friend is dead could be unbearable.

His hand hovers above the bowl, thoughts frothing up to curl against his fingers like lovesick kittens,

Okay. I'm now undone by your exquisite prose and innovative wordcraft. That second phrase is inspired100; it's so visual and visceral and I've not read anything like it.

I'm left aching for all three of them — Harry, Ron and Draco — this is a truly memorable story. So many images from this will haunt me, I have no doubt. Beautiful writing, m'dear!!

Thank you so much for the lovely feedback! I'm so happy you liked the story (and heh, you caught me out on Rule No. 1: "You shall not write fanfic without cat imagery!").

But yes, I hurt for all three of them too - most perhaps for Harry, who's been left behind...

Wow! I read gen seldom but stories like these make it really worth it. What a beautiful way to describe Ron, just wonderful and realistic voice he had in this story. It was all very tragic in the end, especially for Harry who had to deal with knowing it all, but beautiful all the same.

Pure magic. :)

Thanks! I'm glad it worked for you despite being gen :).

oh, beautifully heartbreaking

Oh, this was heartbreaking but absolutely beautiful. I had tears in my eyes at the last couple lines; I'm amazed at the range of emotions you so seamlessly pulled off in this. Gorgeous work!

*squee*
I was a bit worried over the effect of the emotional roller-coaster, so I'm very glad to hear it worked for you! Thanks :).

Wow, this was stunning. I admit I'm not the greatest Ron fan, but this was really, really good.
Of course I loved Harry (expert on artefacts now, is he? Good move!) and, omg!, Draco - he's a Ghost, I'd never have guessed ... and his last lines and the almost-smile, oh my. That touched me almost more than Ron's fate. Which was desperately sad indeed. And unfortunately I could see this happen in canon.
Ron's choice of happiest memories and the style in which they were conveyed were really well written. Brilliant, bittersweet joy, and Harry's thoughts about all of it (especially his reflection on the summer before Fifth Year).
I really did enjoy reading this, and it is going to my reclist. Thank you for sharing this.

Yay, I'm glad I could spread the Ron-love, at least a little! I'm very happy his memories (and Harry and Draco) worked for you there. Thanks for the uplifting feedback!

Oh my. Now that's good Ron!fic. How much Harry has missed, or not appreciated. I like the Azkaban backstory, too, and would have liked more of it, only it would have upset the balance of the story. Ghost!Draco seems to be more effective dead than alive, save in that one instance of saving Ron from what he feared most. All sorts of delights to ruminate on, here.

You read Ron! You read Ron!

*composes self*

Thanks! I'm very happy you liked it :). And I was going to write Azkaban in its own scene rather than imaginary, but it felt too real... and not happy enough too, so it got all cut out again. *hugs*

Oh, how brilliant! I've been reading and writing ghosty stories lately with this kind of twist, and I just can't get enough of them. Just might be one of my favourite fic devices. :) But even apart from that, this was just so, so beautiful. I loved the narration shifts from third person to second for the memories, for one. That worked very well. And the memories were so vividly drawn in so few words - I think my favourite is of Ron and Sirius playing chess, but they were all wonderful. This was a marvellous take on the 'Joy' prompt! I think after stalking you a bit on your Ron/Remus fic, and now this one, I am now more than a little bit in love with your writing. :)

*blushes furiously*
Ghosty stories are something I seem to return to ever so often (one of the reason I so hate character death warnings...). I'm so happy it worked for you (and the Sirius bit was my own favourite too, *g*). Thanks for the giddiness-inducing feedback!

OMG I could cry. No, wait, strike that, I am crying... big, fat tears are just rolling, rolling, rolling down my cheeks. That was sweet pain, so beautiful and sad and desperate and just a little hopeless yet filled with hope.

Forgive the late comment...this has been on my "to read" list for a while and I've only now gotten to it. I really, really enjoyed this. It was a wonderful celebration of Ron's character, and the structure of the fic really worked for me. The Draco surprise at the end was unexpected but absolutely right. Very moving all around. Thank you!

Forgive the late thanks for the lovely feedback! :)

I'm very happy you liked it, and that the structure (which I wibbled about a bit) turned out right.

I have no idea how I missed this before... But I am glad I caught up with it..

Its absolutly exquisite!

Oh, wonderful story-telling! Canon-fitting, splendid characterisation (perfect Draco is always a bonus) and an original theme fulfilling the prompt - this is all kinds of awesome! :)

Thank you so very much for sharing! :)
