A Ron Ficathon where Everyone's a Winner!
drabble prompt #11
21st-Feb-2007 09:43 pm

Drabble Rules Refresher

1. Drabbles should be Ron-centric
2. Aim for 100 words exactly (but no one's counting)
3. Put each drabble in a separate comment to this entry with appropriate headers

Your header should look like this:
Team [Het/Slash/Gen], [Title], [warnings]

You can write as many drabbles as you want for as many different teams as you want.

This post will close to drabbles Sunday. This is the last drabble prompt before the fics are posted!

Prompt #11: Since March 1 is both the start date of our main fest and Ron's birthday, that's our prompt - birthday! It doesn't have to be Ron's that you write about - it could be Ron celebrating someone else's birthday as long as, per usual, Ron is the central character.

Writing for this prompt is now closed. Please vote for these drabbles over at the voting post.

Title: A World of Peas
Author: tajareyul
Prompt: birthday
Team: Gen
Rating/Warnings: All (G)/None
Word Count: 261
Author's Notes: I tried my best, but I couldn't squish this into 100 words. Inspired by a bumper sticker and the fact that Molly's birthday is October 30th.

“Ron, could you come here a moment?”

Ron had been hoping to avoid his mother “Anything wrong, Mum?” he asked carefully. He was afraid she would somehow divine that he, Harry and Hermione were leaving in the morning.

She held a ragged and yellowed scrap of parchment in her hand. “I just want to have a little chat.”

“This isn't my snidget-and-billywig talk, is it? 'Cause Charlie—”

“No, this isn't about that. Although, perhaps your father—no? Well, do you remember this?” She held out the parchment.

Ron took it. Dried peas were Spellotaped across the top. The childish scrawl underneath wished a 'Happy Birthday to Mummy'.

His ears burned. “Aw, Mum. I can't believe you saved this. I was so stupid.”

“It was adorable. Someday when you have children, you'll understand. You must have overheard me saying the best birthday present I ever received was a world of peace for my children--”

“And I thought you said peas. It didn't make any sense, but grownups said a lot of things that didn't make sense to me when I was five.”

“Every time I got another owl about one of your 'adventures' with Harry, I'd take this out and think, 'That's my Ronnie, giving me a world of peas.'”

“I don't know if I've told you how very proud I am of you. You've grown into the sort of young man your father and I always hoped you'd be.” She pulled him into a tight and, given that he was a good foot taller than her, awkward hug.

Awe, you made me cry.

“Every time I got another owl about one of your 'adventures' with Harry, I'd take this out and think, 'That's my Ronnie, giving me a world of peas.'”

This is so sweet, wonderful, and touching:) Excellent job!

This is adorable. And I loved the "snidget-and-billywig talk" line, too. :D

That was Outstanding!

You capture the innocense of a child so well.

'That's my Ronnie, giving me a world of peas.'
That's the million dollar line.

Brilliant job, Taj. Just bloody brilliant!
